Every course on the Monterey Peninsula will be booked, priced for the occasion, or closed to you altogether that week. We are none of those things. Pajaro Valley is a historic public course on the north shoulder of Monterey Bay — a straight run up Highway 1, away from the tournament traffic, and a fraction of the money.

The price is the point
Ninety-nine dollars, every day of Open week, cart and range balls included — while a single resort round on the Peninsula that week runs many times that. Play here twice for less than one round down there and put the difference toward the Sunday ticket.
Thirty-eight minutes, no tournament traffic
Straight up Highway 1 along the bay and off at Salinas Road, running away from the championship rather than into it. Parking is free and forty paces from the first tee — no shuttle, no lot pass, no wristband.
An old course with real character
Floyd McFarland laid this routing out in the 1920s and it has never been softened. Wide, tumbling fairways drop toward Elkhorn Slough; the wind comes off Monterey Bay in the afternoon; small greens punish a lazy approach. Walkable, unpretentious, and honestly fun after a day on your feet.
Eighteen holes on the edge of a slough
Par 72 over 6,234 yards, wide undulating fairways falling away toward Elkhorn Slough — a wetland that carries more than three hundred and forty bird species and a good deal of wind. Mature trees, small greens, a slope of 124 from the back tees. It is not a resort course and does not pretend to be one. Bring a caddie’s patience and a low ball flight.
One road, one exit, thirty-eight minutes
Leave before the gates open
Tournament traffic runs south and west into the Peninsula. You’ll be driving the other way. First tee times go out at 6:20 a.m. — a morning eighteen has you back at Pebble Beach for the afternoon groups.
Or play after the round
June light holds past 8:30. Leave the grounds at four, tee off by five, finish nine or twelve holes with the sun behind Fremont Peak and eat at the bar afterward.
Parking is a non-event
Free, adjacent, forty paces from the first tee. No shuttle, no lot pass, no wristband. Clubs go from trunk to cart in about a minute.
Distances and drive times are typical, non-tournament figures for the Highway 1 route; expect delays on Highway 68 and Highway 1 south of Marina during championship hours.

Our usual twilight, replay and walking rates are suspended for the week — one number keeps the tee sheet simple while the championship is on. Rates return to normal Monday the 21st.

Consecutive times, one invoice, carts staged and clubs met at the drop, and a table held at the grill for lunch afterward. Ask about a second morning when you book.
Twelve players and up
Corporate & hospitality
Shotgun or tee-time start, scoring, contest holes, cart signage, and the clubhouse to yourselves. A quiet alternative to a hospitality tent, at a very different price.
North of the traffic, and cheaper for it
Peninsula rooms are the first thing to sell out and the last to come down in price. These are the areas our regulars use during big Monterey weeks — all within a short drive of us, and a manageable one of the championship. Each one opens a live room search for championship week.
Watsonville & Pajaro Dunes
Closest to us
Beach houses and highway motels five to fifteen minutes from the first tee. The cheapest beds within reach of the championship, and the shortest morning drive.
Aptos & Rio del Mar
Coast, mid-range
Small inns and rentals above the beach with restaurants inside walking distance. A good compromise if the group wants dinner without driving.
Moss Landing & Castroville
On the route
Quiet, working-harbour lodging directly on the Highway 1 corridor. You pass the course on the way to the championship, and again on the way home.
Monterey & Seaside
Closest to the Open
The most convenient beds for the championship, the first to be gone, and the ones that triple in price for the week. Book here if walking the grounds matters more than what the room costs.
Send the sticks ahead of you.
Airline golf fees, an oversized bag through San Jose, and a rental car that will not take it — for most groups flying in, shipping the clubs is cheaper than checking them and considerably less trouble. Ship Sticks collects from your home or club and delivers to our golf shop; we hold the bags until you arrive.
Ship to arrive a day before your round. We will have the bags tagged and waiting at the cart.

Questions visitors actually ask
Can I get on during Open week?
Yes — that is the whole point of this page. Every time that week is $99, and the mornings before 8 a.m. and the late afternoons are the ones still open longest.
Are rental clubs available?
Full sets in the shop, right and left handed, with a sleeve of balls included. Reserve them with the tee time and they will be waiting at the cart.
What is the dress code?
Collared shirt or a golf polo, no denim on the course, soft spikes. Nobody here is going to send you back to the car over a pair of shorts.
Can we walk it?
Yes, and plenty do. The routing is rolling but honest, the price is the same whether you ride or walk, and a walking eighteen finishes comfortably inside four hours.
How is the pace of play?
Four hours and ten in the morning, a shade quicker at twilight. Rangers keep it moving without hovering.
Is there food and a bar?
Grill and full bar in the clubhouse, open before the first tee time and well after the last group turns in. The televisions will be on the championship all week.
