How the scoring works
Two games run inside every round, both scored net so a 20-handicap and a scratch player can compete fairly.
TTeam Game
Two-person teams, net best ball. This is not a scramble — each player plays their own ball into the hole. After the hole, both gross scores go into the app and convert to net using each player's strokes. The better of the two net scores is the team's score for that hole.
IIndividual Game
Your own net score, hole by hole, feeds a personal leaderboard that runs alongside the team standings all season. A max score is set for every hole — once you hit it, pick up and keep the pace moving.
Where a 12-stroke player's strokes land
Strokes are assigned to the toughest holes on the card first. A player receiving 12 Spark Strokes for the round gets two strokes on the three lowest-handicap holes, and one stroke on the remaining six:

Do I need an existing handicap to join?+
No. Tell the app your typical good 9-hole score when you sign up and it assigns your starting strokes. It keeps adjusting automatically as you play more rounds.
Is this a scramble?+
No — every player plays their own ball all the way into the hole. Team scoring simply takes the better of the two teammates' net scores on each hole.
What if I can only make it some weeks?+
That's how most people play it. There's no fee to join and no minimum number of rounds — register week to week and only pay for the golf you play.
Can I join without a partner?+
Yes. Join as a single and you'll be grouped with other Spark players, or bring a partner and register as a team from the start.
How do I pay for rounds?+
Pay per round as you register on Spark, or prepay for Spark credit at a discount and draw it down each week.
What if a round fills up?+
You can join the waitlist and you'll be added automatically if a spot opens. If it doesn't, you're refunded in Spark credit toward a future round.
